Kathy grew up in a small town near Schenectady, New York. She first came to Newton as a student at Boston College. She then moved to Washington, DC to attend law school at Georgetown University. After a clerkship for a federal judge in Baltimore, she returned to Washington, DC to work as a tax attorney. When a job opportunity brought them to Boston, she and her husband looked throughout the MetroWest area before deciding to settle in Newton. All four of her children have attended Newton Public Schools (currently her two sons are at Brown Middle School and one of her daughters is at Newton South).
Kathy has been deeply involved in her community for the past 18 years, serving as a board member at Newton’s Hills & Falls Community Nursery School, volunteering with the Angier PTO, serving as a member of the Parish Council at Sacred Heart Parish, as a board member of the Windsor Club, as a board member of Flying Kites (a local nonprofit that runs a school and teacher training institute in rural Kenya), as a coach for Newton Girls Soccer, Newton Youth Soccer, and Newton Girls Basketball, and currently as Treasurer of the Newton South Booster Club.
For the past five years, Kathy has served on the Waban Area Council, where she has worked to keep the community engaged and informed on issues of importance. She currently serves as the President of the Area Council.
Kathy is grateful to live in a community like Newton and is excited about the possibility of continuing to give back as your Ward 5 City Councilor.
